Zbrush performance issues

#1

Hey everyone,
I’ve been using zbrush for a bit now, loving it, but I’m having issues with performance.
When i get up to 8 mill polys with multi subtools, it gets really slow.
I’ve already done the following things to attempt to fix this issue.
*Hit the test multithread and optimize multithread options
*adjusted the mem value to 4 gb
*relocated my scratch disk and quick save (because the default drive is small)
My system specs are as follows
AMD FX 8350 (8 cores, 4ghz) just bought it this week
AMD Sapphire Dual X R9 270 (also brand new
8 GB of ram
Windows 7 64bit
Help??!?

could it have anything to do with dynamesh?

1.) Keep your subtools at their lowest subdivisions when not working on them and only increase the levels on the subtool you are working on. That way ZB isn’t constantly processing millions of polygons while you work.

2.) Upgrade to the new 4R7 and try the 64bit version.

Unless you have a specific reason for using dynamesh I would not use it and instead work in subdivision levels. It’ll help with your performance issues at noted above and it’s easier to work your subtools when you can make modifications at lower subdivision levels.

A lot of artists here tend to use dynamesh and I think it’s a bad habit to get into.
