HI

So I only got Zbrush last week and I really want to make my characters in Zbrush for my animations but I just cant get the hang of it, I even have a subscription to digital tutors, I have went through all there starter videos and I have started one of there guided learning paths and I just cant get the hang of it, I have come from Maya and I picked that up with in a couple of days but you cant get the same great looking characters that you can in Zbrush,

does any one have any solutions to my problem, except for hard work and hanging in which I am doing im out of ideas
thanks

The answer is in your question:

“So I only got Zbrush last week…”

One week isn’t enough time. You have to be patient. I’m not sure what your artistic level with Maya is but no doubt it took longer than a week to learn the technical aspects and introduce your style in your work.

The DT tutorials are a help but they are used too often as a crutch when learning. Nothing is better than using the software as much as you can. Once you learn the basics then its time to just practice practice and then once you think you got the hang of it, practice some more.

That’s really all it is. It’s amazing what spending a couple hours a day in ZB can do for you. Be patient and keep at it.

chose from the 3 videos on the bottom, most of them are for getting started

Pretty much all that. After a while things just click into place and the workflow develops from there. You are probably doing the right things now with tutorials and practicing as much as you can.

I think this could be the crux of the problem. Saying you’ve picked up Maya in a couple of days is like saying you learned to drive a car in a couple of hours. You might be able to make it go in one direction but the minute you join traffic or have to plan a journey you’ll be in serious trouble (Ok, I’ve probably taken that simile a little too far :))

Anyway, what I’m getting at is that everyone wants to instantly understand/master things, including software, but the most important thing you need is time. Accept that you’ll need to spend a few months before you make something you’ll be happy with. Pick some simple projects, not even necessarily characters, that will help you learn ZBrush’s methodology. And most importantly, if you have trouble understanding something, ask for help
