Zbrush Masking Going Through Object

Looked around the web for this but could not seem to find a possible answer for this one
so im trying to use the lasso / circle / curve masking tool to make a circle but it appears its the mask is going through the object as shown below,

any idea why this is so, preety sure its a simple problem im a newbie to this only been my first couple of days and the help on this forum so far as been top drawer

CTRL+SHIFT Drag to hide everything you don’t want to mask, then mask the visible

its preety much doing the same thing as before :frowning:

or do i have to manually hide each one of these just a mask out a simple square on the top, there has a to be something im doing wrong something this simple should not be this complicated i just wanted to mask out a square only on the top face…:frowning:

its probably the fact that im new to zbrush which is why my masking skills are so nub
but its getting better
