Zbrush: Forgot to UV

#1

Hi there,

I’m kinda new to Zbrush, just finished with my first sculpt and i’ve sculpted it up to about 6 subdivisions and polypainted on top. I then realized i made a big mistake, i had forgotten to do my uv’s in maya when i first modeled the basemesh (which then had imported into zbrush). So i’ve done alot of work on the model with no uv’s. Im really trying not to have to redo everything because i simply dont have the time. Is there any work arounds that can possibly save me or am for lack of a better word, screwed.

Thanks

Don’t panic!

The way I see it, you have two options.

  1. Go to your lowest sub-division level and use UV Master and it’s features to create UV’s.

  2. Go to your lowest sub-division level and export or “GoZ” to Maya where you can create UV’s there then “GoZ” back to ZBrush again to bake out any maps if that’s what you want to do.

That’s the beauty of ZBrush - You are not confined to any single linear workflow so most of the time you have the freedom to just create and not have to worry about technical stuff till later.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Also, it’s actually better to UV after you have finished your primary form sculpting The UV’s from the basemesh will get skewed from pushing the mesh around, so UVing after sculpting is generally best. And as mentioned above, ZB has a so many wonderful tools that the workflow is non-destructive.
