z-depth in C4

Hi guys…

Could someone help me out in giving a Z-depth in Combustion4…
(It wud be gr8 if it is a step by step process)

I’ve been doing it all these days in Shake…now wanna do it in C4…

Thanks in advance…

Use the operator Show G-buffer

#3

Hi Vympel…

Thank u for the information…I used the operator Show G-buffer & it shows the Z-depth in the layer that has Z-depth…could u be more elaborative in how to get it applied to the other layers too…?

For eg., for a particular 3d generated scene I have…

  1. a BG layer,
  2. a CH layer,
  3. a SH layer,and
  4. a Z-depth layer(this layer has only the Z-depth matte of the entire scene).

So all the above layers are separate…

So how should I proceed to get the output…?

Hi TheEmperor, perhaps this is what you meant?

  • nest the 3 layers into a subcomposite
  • apply the “g-buffer-builder” operator to the layer in the main composite
  • in the g-buffer builder controls click on zdeph and choose the zdepth footage
  • now apply 3d depth of field or what you like

there is no need to create an extra layer for the zdepth footage, you can directly open it from the g-buffer builder

hope that helps

Which format is using? If the Z-depth “joined” in the archive is enough connects it it the g-buffer to builder or apply the 3D post directly in it. If it will be using to layer pass, connects to layer of the Z-depth to the G-buffer Builder

Thanks Guys…

Am still in a spot of bother…

Hi NeoGeo…

As I said earlier i’ve got 4 layers…the BG…CH…SH…& the Z-depth layer rendered separately…
other than the Z-depth layer the other layers just have their respective Alphas.
The Z-depth layer doesnt have any other information…

I just followed ur instructions like

-“nest the 3 layers into a subcomposite”…I nested the 3 layers BG,CH & SH layer into a subcomposite…

  • apply the “g-buffer-builder” operator to the layer in the main composite…to which layer do I apply this “g-buffer-builder”…Only my z-depth layer is in the main composite…
    Am stuck over here…!

(- in the g-buffer builder controls click on zdeph and choose the zdepth footage

  • now apply 3d depth of field or what you like…)

What does the operator “g-buffer-builder” is actually used for…?

Usually you don’t need the g-buffer builder if you render a rpf sequence from Max which include several image channels like Zdepth velocity…

The G-buffer builder is used to combine an RGBA image with channels like Zdepth if you rendered the channels in seperate files. It is possible to use any RGBA image like tga or sgi
and use Bitmap images for the Zdepth for example. You can even use real footage and use a paint operator to paint the zdepth.

here you find two tutorials for the G-buffer builder
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=5575218

Main Composite
nested Layer
G-Buffer Builder
Zdepth Footage
nested Composite
Layer 1 RGBA
Layer 2 RGBA
Layer 3 RGBA

with this method you can use one Zdepth sequence for all three layers at the same time.
