i c alot of good coments about modo, y should i use it for modeling what is unique about it, y i model in modo and render in max, what is the unique techniques that modo have?

Modo is so easy to use and you can learn it quickly in a short time, and you also got builtin scripting capability which makes it easy to script tasks and other stuff. And further more Modo comes with a pretty powerful materialeditor and renderengine, all that baked into one yummy cookie if i put it that way
If you should use Modo is all up to you, download the trialversion and play with it, try some tutorials to get you started with it. Check the official Modo forum for tips, help and the gallery and more. It’s a good resource of information with nice people there.
The rest you can figure out on your own by messing around with the trialversion, that’s what it’s for…

I love how Modo allows you to quickly select what you want, move it, flip it - everything you want is done pretty much easily and just in a few clicks.
The interface is very productive, with a real-time render that gives you a quick live preview ow what you’re doing.
Everytime I try to model in Maya I come back to modo for it’s easyness of use, very polyvalent tools and THINGS ARE SORTED LOGICALY AMONG THE MENUS!
You don’t lose hours looking for a basic tool, it’s usualy at the top of the list - leaving place for more complex tools beneath.
Because it’s easy doesn’t mean it’s poor quality. It’s actually way more functional and has less bugs than many other softwares I’ve tried in the past.
Hope this helps!
I use C4D and was wondering how Modo stacks up against C4D. How does it compare as far as modeling speed and other thinks like painting etc. I can’t try Modo right now as I am so busy, so i was hoping someone her could give me thier opinions.
Thanks
I personaly like Modo deformers, they are really usefull! Things like bend, push, move, twist, … The modeling speed is greatly increased by all the programable pop-up menus, easily configurable interface, scriptable actions (ex: boolean holes of x width and z height at the position of selected vertexes). The fallofs combinations are interesting too, and the world/element manipulator coordinations combinations are very flexible.
In other words, it’s very flexible and will enhance your workflow. Painting seems OK, I tried it a little so far, and while it’s not perfect yet it’s very functional.
I’d say it’s really just intuitiveness. Intuitivity. Whatever that word is. Modo is so easy to pick up - everything is exactly where it should be. And if you don’t like something about it, it’s so easy to change - the interface is very easy to customize and it’s very easy to create new menus, windows, and reassign keys. That’s why it’s great as a modeler.
As a renderer, it’s really fast and gets amazing results, but is incredibly easier to use than the big ones like mRay, vRay, Renderman, etc. The renderer is designed around the average artist. MentalRay and vRay and Renderman are all competing for the film/cinema market. This means they have to be extremely programmable, flexible, capable of producing much more complex effects. Modo’s renderer doesn’t have quite the flexibility, but that means that almost everything an average user would do is SO much easier.
Why do I love Modo? To many things to list, but here is a short list.
Easy to configure UI - I have different layouts depending upon if I am modeling, UV mapping, rendering, etc. I can just display the tools I need.
Great UV mapping tools - all of the basics plus Unwrap and Relax
Constrain to Background - Great feature, were you can move vertices and the will be constrained to the surface of your objects in the background
Action centers - able to align the tools with the selected elements, very time saving
With a number of the tools you can add geometry without breaking the UV map
Easily handles models with a large number of morphs.
The painting tools are good, but there is room for improvement
RE C4D, I suspect there may be things it does better, but I found Modo much easier to learn and modeling in. I also like how the materials, textures, etc are setup in Modo better that C4D.
Cheers!

buzzoff, be nice like the others please didnt u read the rules of cgtalk befor u post?
guys here telling me nice things about modo, am a max user for a long time max is great from all sides, but i c adds about model in max and render in modo or model in modo and render in max, and also i saw some professional artist used modo for modeling, so i really got interested about modo, actually i want to model in modo and then go and animate and render in max, so i need to know from the artists why they shoosen modo, am not going to just read the help of modo, ofcource they will say its the greatest like other packages, i model people mostly, so do u think guys that modo is worth to learn and give it time?
i dont know what else to ask but i liked the modo thread, people here r nice, EXCEPT BUZZOFF, so thank u guys for your answers and pleas give me mor about why u choos modo?
there is a lot of 3d packages now, the masters r max and maya, light wave and softimage, c4d, but i c new 3d software r growing like modo and zbrush, and mudbox is coming soon, btw i tried the beta vertion of mudbox and it was really really great i cant wait till they releas it, i learnd mudbox in just one day, its a modeling software, so anyway i talkd alot:shrug: .
i think i will give modo a try but just one more thing, what modo have that max doesnt have in modeling?
thank u and bye
I know the rules, feel free to do everyone the courtesy of posting like a real person and not like this is a cool 133t board.
I talked a lot about why Modo as a software is great, but there was something else I forgot to mention: although there are still some bad apples, the Modo community (over at luxology.com) is exceptionally good. It’s not the hugest group of users, although fairly large, but I think in general they surpass all other software’s users in terms of average friendliness and helpfulness. And Luxology feeds that, in addition to the regular customer service guy (David) and the webmaster, President Brad Peebler and a number of the engineers/programmers answer questions and post on the forums very regularly. Brad makes a free new tutorial video every Friday. Modo also comes with over 2 GB of content - 1.55 GB is dedicated to tutorial videos. Every tool in the entire program has a video explaining how to use it. Stuff like that is maybe my primary reason for loving Modo.
I think a lot was said already, modo only lacks a little on the paint side but they will probably fix that soon (silo2/mudbox style)
IMHO
modo is the fastest modeler I’ve worked with. The structure is very flexable, thus after a learning tuning stage you can really work quickly.
The workplane allows you to stay in 3d
while maintaining full control of axis, alignment etc.
In a nutshell, its faster, as the modo slogan says ‘model at the speed of thought’.
To hell with scrolling through menus.
to put it in simple terms, having used LW and Maya for many years, Modo opened up a whole new way of doing things.
to put it in the easiest possible explanation, I know how long it takes me to build a high resolution, high detailed car, or fighter jet etc. If I start a project like an F-14, I have a really good idea of exactly how long it takes start to finish.
Modo allowed me to do the same level of work, in the same amount of detail in less than half the time it did in apps I was well familiar with. The workflow is phenomenal.
modo is the fastest modeler I’ve worked with.
Did you mean workflow or computation speed ?
I cant use Modo due to the old GPU, which is 5-6 years old now. It is clear the Lux guys just dumped all the heavy tasks to the GPU, and didnt optimize the core enough. So its ultra-quick Silo for me, at least until i upgrade the video card, then maybe i’ll look at Modo one more time.
What sold me on modo was the ergonomics of it and the tremendous degree of customization that is possible. Using modo feels like a very luxurious experience.
