XGen, Mental Ray and archives's colors

#1

Hello,

I’ve been working with XGen and custom archives in Mental Ray this last days and I would like my archives to get their color from the texture or paintmap on the surface they’re attached to. In other words I would just like to control my archives color with an XGen expressions. I’ve seen very simple tutorials for Arnold & VRay, and they’re both using similar nodes (AiUserDataColor and VRayUserColor) to add custom attributes and link them to XGen’s custom shader parameters. However I can’t find any information on how to do the same thing with mental ray. Anyone has a solution ?

Yes Pahuska, I’ve been watching the same tut with Arnold and Vray, but couldn’t replicate the same coloring result with “native” Mental ray with Xgen. Anyone?

I’ve found similar nodes in maya called mib_data_color, mib_data_get_color, mib_data_color_array, etc… I have no idea how to use them. I tried like in the Arnold tutorial but it’s not working…

I’ve seen this video but that’s not what I’m looking for. This tutorial shows you how to paint the archives’s indexes, what I want is to the color that will be used in the shader for rendering.
