I’m new to xgen, I’ve created beard, now I want to create eyebrows, I create a new description but don’t see any guides/hair on that mesh.
Xgen, how to create a second description?
we need more info…
old or new xgen.?
have you switched to the new description.?
could you post a screenshot.?
new Xgen.
Yes I created new description.
What do you want the screen shot of to be specific?
All you need to do in interactive grooming menu is to select your new description, go to your description submenu “description_base” and then click to “density brush” it will alowe you to paint hairs, but if you need to paint those hairs one by one for been more specific with the eyebrows, then you select the “place tool” insted, all your painting information will be stored under sculpt as a layer.
I selected the eyebrow mesh then in the interactive groom editor I clicked create hair and fur, there’s now hair on the eyebrow mesh, the eyebrow description has been created but I can’t choose this description in the xgen tab, and without that happening I can’t update the preview of the eyebrow, I can’t change the grooming in the render. How do I move eyebrow Description from Xgen interactive groom editor to Xgen tab.
I dont understand why you want to do that, all my hairs i do them in the interactive grooming workspace since maya 2017, just after creating the new hair description you just select any brush from the Xgen menu and you can instantly brush it because the sculpt layer will allways be “on” i dont even know how to turn it “off”, it will stay “on” unless I select another description turning this sculpt layer “on” and the previous “off”, if some one knows how to turn off edit mode in sculpt layers please help too, another maya 2018 bug… but anyway, you have to use interactive grooming workspace.
Then, after you finish brushing your hair it will stay in edit mode “on” and it will create a descriptin on the outliner that you will be able to move into your character´s group and then it will be very easy to export hairs with your character, you dont need to move descriptions from interactive grooming to groom editor and you cant, both are different, in fact… the old groom editor will disappear from maya in next editions, all those hairs from old xgen wont work in the future and you can´t convert them, from now you must only work with interactive grooming since it will be the only way to work hair in the future because IG it´s more advanced, you can animate hair easy, create layers and brush hairs the same way you model a mesh, wich is really awesome, congratulation Maya 2016.5 DEV team, this was the last maya version that was flawless in therms of progress.
This tutorials will help you, they were done with the latest versions of Xgen for interactive grooming in Maya 2017, they still work with Maya 2018:
