Hi, Quicktime crash instantly each time I try to do a 1080p H264 file (smaller size is fine). In quicktime pro and in After Effect. I have to go on my coworker mac to do this. Pretty annoying. I’ve try a lot of quicktime versions.
People here recommand me to use x264 instead but I realise it might not be that easy to install on pc. Or at least in quicktime.
If anyone succeeded in installing it, I would very like to know how.

If you can, use the native MP4 exporter in After Effects. If you select the preset for H.264 it will setup everything. Then you can change the bit rates for the audio and video to whatever you want. There’s really no point to putting it in a QuickTime file anymore.
yeah I agree, don’t use quicktime to export
make a normal h.264 and quicktime will read it fine along with everything else
Im in CS5.5 now and the MPEG4 exporter have a limit of 720x480 and 8000kbs. Not very useful.
Update; the H264 exporter is working! It export an mp4, which is not the best when the client ask a .mov, but still pretty good.

For my crashes, the faulty process is quicktimeh264.qtx.
I have CS5 and it goes higher, I export 1920x1080 shots all the time, try a different H.264 profile (unrelated to the After Effects presets). I think the one you want is the “High Profile” if I remember correctly.
This is from CS6, but CS5 and CS5.5 have the same options. The default is Main (for SD), change it to High (for HD). See the attachment.
