Would you recommend this system?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to get a new system at a budget of $3500. My use will be everything from video editing to 3d simulation. I will be using software such as Nuke, Premiere Pro, Maya and Houdini for most of my work. Most of them are processor and memory intensive. This is the system list I got from a store but I would like to get some feedback from a more experienced person before I settle for the price.

Intel Hex Core i7-4930k 3.4Ghz CPU
Coolermaster Hyper-212X Universal CPU cooler
Asus P9X89-LE Motherboard
GSkill Ripjaws-x DDR3 16Gx4
Asus GTX780 3G Video Card
Samsung 840 Pro Series 512GB SATAIII SSD
WD 3.5" 4TB SATAIII 7200rpm HDD

Total = $3000

This doesn’t seem to be a very busy forum. Neither you nor I have gotten any responses on either of our builds! :sad:
Hopefully you haven’t gotten it yet or this advice will be pointless. I’m actually getting pretty much the same computer as you are, however, mine is slightly different.
Don’t bother with the 840 Pro, go with the EVO. Also, get two of them. Two SSDs, one for a boot drive, one for current projects, and an HDD for storage. The rest of the build looks good!

Hi thanks for the recommendation on the EVO. I hope the price doesn’t jump up too much going with that. Also I’m still deciding whether I should get 64GB ram. Not sure if it’s necessary to go that high. Also the graphic card is around the $600 mark. Is this the right card to get for the type of work I do?

That’s probably because those specs have been discussed about ad nauseam here. Have you tried the search?

GTX760/770 will work almost same as GTX780, so I think no need for 780.
Even GTX760/770 4GB edition would be perfect choice, just to save some money for some other stuff…
Good luck!
