Works in Progress

alfiebabes,
I like the boots a lot, though I’m curious as to what he is? A Martian backpacker?

Dalemation,
That’s a nice little test, some good movement. If you are still interested, why not try shifting his weight form one foot to the other, sometimes it looks like his right foot is nailed down to his ‘hover-board’.

cyberspark,
The lighting looks fine for a studio setting. What kind of mood are you trying to achieve?

#302

Thanks for the comments Pequod. Yes, I did constrain the characters right foot to the disk. I treated it as if the foot was electromagnetically fixed but you are right, I should probably swap the constraint to the other foot at some point. I have made a couple of changes already as his left arm used to go through his leg when the disk slowed down and his momentum carried him forward.

Whaaaat? How do I do that??? You guys have been holding out on me!!

RTFM?

The “A” key for adding cp’s has become the stitch tool, which means you can just click on a sequnce of splines and stitch in a new perpendicular spline without having to weld the new spline as a follow up step. Does that make sense?:hmm:

Also if you hold the “SHIFT” key down, it will not alter the splines that are being attached too. This way you can add detail without effecting the object’s shape.

Ok, figured it out. Seriously kool.

Thanks for mentioning that Wegg - I never would’ve stumbled upon it by myself

#307

Man, I love that tool. I thought it was a bit much when Hash switched the default keys to force people to accidentally try it out (at least once), but it does rule over the old add tool–it’s just so versatile and skips so many steps…

#308

I’ve got used to adding cps using “Y” or extruding whole splines, so it’s probably something I wouldn’t have noticed in casual operation.

These advanced defaults leave me wondering though, this interface is pretty well suited to an advanced user who knows all the keyboards shortcuts, but I wonder if the proggie is still as user friendly to newbies as it was when I jumped in at v9

NOT that it’s my problem at all…

They are probably better off learning the new tools when they themselves are new to A:M, than if they learned a little of A:M and then had to relearn it.

You should be more concerned about an old fart like me having to relearn some things.:stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks Pequod!
I’d like to pretend that I meant to make him look like that but no, I posted the image THEN realised it wasn’t the mesh proper.

My stupidity!

Here’s the mesh just in grey ( I tend to stop bothering as texturing takes so long)

And here’s the face close-up

Martian Backpacker
Alfiebabes that model looks great. I can`t model like that yet. Gotta get some practice in!

I`ve done a little dialogue test and added the new hair from V11 Alpha to the character.

Here’s something I’ve been playing around with.

#313

looks great Natess but I personally would have different claws or foot-ends. The existing “thing” look too delicate for such a beast.

Have you looked at elephants or rhinos feet? Maybe even a cross between hooves and claws would work!

#314

Thx. I haven’t paid much attention to the feet at the momment. I’m going to add pads to the bottom of his front and back feet. He’s not going to be using his back feet for anything other than pushing so they don’t have to be too sturdy.

#315

alfiebabes: Your model looks excellent. The only crit I have is that crease on the lower cheek of the face. I would break those splines and reconnect them to get rid of that crease.

Natess44: I saw this on the Hash Forum. I think the texture is sweet so far. I did see an upper view that looked kind of bulbous at the back. Other than that, I like it.

#316

Thx for commenting. The texutres are all procedural at the minute except for the eyes in case you were wondering. The “tail”(or whatever you’d call it) flat because when I was modeling him out of clay I was going to make a duck billed dinosaur but… my imagination got the best of me. I thought it was slightly better than a good’ol tail

erm… hate to say this but isn’t that kind of a contradiction? Ever watched Rugby? or American “Football”… there’s guys in there whose job it is to “push”…

try checking their legs & feet…
:surprised

#318

I was talking about being sturdy as in balence

Hello!

Here’s a short 30 frame mov file (226 KB) that I’d like to share with you guys. I already posted it on the official Hash forum, but I thought I’d post it here, too. This small piece just shows Gaty, my alligator boy, jumping backward in surprise.
http://www.sonic.net/raillard/hash/jump-back-in-surprise.zip

I zipped it up, to save on webspace. Sorry for the extra hassle.

My reference on this piece was a page out of a Preston Blair book.

Feedback welcome.

Sincerely,

Carl Raillard

I honestly can’t express how much I loved that. Great looking character BTW. Very simple clean design. Any more shots of him to show?
