How 3D people get their freelance jobs…? Via job sites…?

That’s certainly one way…
The other is when people contact you directly with a job, like any other self run business.
My advice/opinion, be prepared to enter a very saturated market. And depending on your actual skill level, you might make anywhere from a couple Hundred US Dollars per assignment, to below minimum wage.
I’m not exaggerating when I say you would be directly competing against many 3D Artists living in 3rd world countries, who can undercut your salary because cost of living is cheaper in their home nations vs the U.S/Canada/Europe etc.
Another thing to watch out for with freelancing is scammers. I had this almost happen to me last year. A client comes to you with a “test” while also enforcing a deadline for their project. They’ll soon demand you hand over the labor you did while never offering to pay you and then disappear forever.
Trust me, never do a job for free. It’s a tell tale sign you are exploitable, since many Veterans always demand they get their money upfront before they start working…
