Wip work by Robin

#1

I decided to start a new thread were i can post all of my work instead of starting up a new thread for each small or big image i work on

Might as well give short presentation, my name is Robin im 28 years old. I currently work in the military in Sweden, but i have studied computer graphics and animation for a couple of years, it has been a while (2-3 years) since i studied and did anything with 3D. I have reacently decided to give another go at 3D and im loving it yet again.
My hopes for the future is that i can get good enough to put together a portfolio and apply for some 3D work. What i have decided to give a go is creating enviromental pieces such as architectural visualisation, i have always found works done by such artists inspiring and beutiful but have never really tried it out for myself until now.

What i am trying to create now is my very first exterior!! Very much fun and lots of new things i need to learn. I havnt gotten that far yet, im almost done with the modeling of the house it self, and i have no idea on how to create realistic looking grass, trees, plants and such so it should be a learning experience.

The house i decided to create, is called “casa de hormigon” which is a house created by BAK Arquitectos. Im not trying to reacreate it in detail. But for my first exterior i wanted something work from and have reference images.

Some quick experiments trying to create grass with vray fur, im gonna try using max hair and fur as well to see if the result is better or worse. Also threw in a couple of trees using forestpack light, first time trying it out. Its far from realistic and what i want, but i spent less than an hour trying this out.

Will post more images as i progress, any feedback, ideas or comments are always welcome

A little bit of progress, mostly did this render too see what it might roughly look like. Still got some modeling to do on the house, and i might mirror the porch/patio or whatever its called so it doesnt cover to much of the house.
The “yard” and surronding area is far from finished, needs more trees general variations, stons, bushes and maybe some flowers and so on.

I like how patchy grass looks, maybe add some more types of plants, you rarely see wild grass of one plant type

I can recognize leaves are just 6 poly planes, in distant trees this is ok, but on the right tree is really close to camera, you should add texture to that tree or use more detailed model

Thank you Winside for the feedback, trees and plants have been my biggest issue with this piece. I cant find any good plugin/script/program to create good trees… and i really arent that excited about modeling a tree and hand placing a million leaves and then do it 2-3 more times to get some unique trees. Any suggestions here would be really appriciated !

I havent had any time to work on this lately, which makes me sad and annoyed. But yeasterday i finally got a few hours in to work on it, and then i did a test render over the night. I have almost only been working on the enviroment, i havent textured any part of the house yet.
Im thinking about redoing the enviroment, by redoing the grass (making it short like someone trimmed it) and i want a high res tree or two close to the camera on either left or right side and maybe also add some stairs down from the patio/porch to the field. I think i need to lower the relection of the leaves of my current trees to, the look a bit to shiny maybe? Oh for the trees in my scene i have used forestpack light.

To many different ideas right now, so i any feedback would be great here
Here is the were im at right now.

I have finally started texturing the house and the props. Dont really have any time to work on this which is kinda ruining the image i think, i stress with what little time i have and i end with a result im not liking :banghead:

Still wanna share this latest render with some quick ps work. Not to happy with the result so far, think i need to change the camera angle, hoping for some feedback on what more needs to be changed in order to improve this further.

Another render of the concrete house, im a bit more happy with this result. Would really love some feedback on what YOU think is looking good, bad or maybe just plain boring and why. I might make this a portfolio piece so i want honest opinions it would really mean a lot!
I have been staring myself blind on this now, and i guess i cant see what is good and what is bad about the image anymore. I might have spent a bit to much time with this one in photoshop touching it up, think i might have overdone it?

I might make another render of this but as an evening scene with the house lit up. (Getting tired of this house now) :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway hope you like it and if you dont let me know what could/should be improved :arteest:

Ok im gonna call the concrete house finished, didnt get much responses from my last update and i dont want to spend to much more time on it.

I started a new project and its a bit more “creative” i guess. But im not sure anymore if its gonna end up as good as i thought in my head. And from my original idea i developed a lot more new ideas and i dont know were to take this image. Either im just gonna scrap it and just make a normal office image…
or ill keep going with the concept of making a “twisted office” were each “section” is a office style of its own (one modern, one colorful, one gamer office, etc) or make each section the same but with 10 years a part, as in its the same office but each section has aged 10 years without any of the objects being exchanged for new ones (so more wear and tear the further into the image you look).
What do you guys think, should i scrap it or not? And if not which idea sounds better?

Any feedback here would be really helpful and awesome, im starting to feel stuck so i have just been doing props to scene lately.

I think the idea of separating each office by era is an awesome idea. The composition of the offices looks interesting to begin with and makes me think maybe the gravity in each section is different, why not the timeline itself. I would populate each room with items unique to that era though and maybe keep one or two pieces to show wear and tear.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions Litheria, im still having a hard time deciding what to do with this. I guess ill keep doing props till i can decide

#10

Been working and reworking this project for quite some time now, decided to go with a regular office for now and maybe later use the props to create a twisted office as i posted before. Anyway here is some progress images, its still needs lots of objects in the shelves and desks, but im starting to feel quite happy with it. All objects and everything with it is created by me, as usual.
The furnishing and placement is inspired by an office image posted by evermotion that i found googling for inspiration.
As always any and all feedback is appreciated

I love that twisted hallway scene. It reminds me a lot of the hallway scene from Inception, although it’s pretty different. Might be the dutch angle.

I’m trying to figure out just what I like about it, but I can’t put my finger on it.

Everything else looks good, but that one just stands out to me.

#12

Thanks TARDISMaker, i will try to finish the twisted office scene as soon as i finish the “regular office” im working on. I have had some problems with it though, to many different ideas and not sure what im gonna do with it. But once the the current project is finished i will have some more props i can put in the scene and try to finish it up
I have seen inception but i cant remember the scene you are talking about, might have to rewatch it soon, thanks a lot for your feedback !

#13

Okay so i have added a few more things, done some small changes and its nearing completion.
To do is add; trashcans, coffee mugs, maybe a plant (not sure about that though), more objects to the left shelf, look over the floor texture, try to make a better rug, add phones, and find a nice background image.

Im having troubles with the composition though, here is another render from a slightly different angle. Was hoping to get some input on which you like better, or if i should try for something different?

#14

Ok i think im gonna let this office scene go for now. Here is a final render, i will do some more renders from other angles later on as well, but i probably wont change anything more. Hope you like it !

#15

Looking very good!

:applause:

#16

Thank you JDmedia

#17

Well its been a while since i posted or did anything to do with 3d. Decided to try and make a couple of Dr pepper pack shots to get back into it. Both images took maybe around 12 hours to make, most of the time was spent looking at different reference images and coming up with ideas on how to “present the product” i suppose
Here is the result, would love any kind of feedback !

#18

Ok im gonna try and post more wip images of what im doing to be able to see the progress better of my own work. So here are the first wip image of a kitchen im working on, i have found my inspiration and reference images and are starting to put the room itself together now.
Its very early stage not much to see really, but i want to keep track of my progress better.

#19

Here is todays update on the kitchen im working on! Im gonna try and finish up the rest of the furniture today or tomorow then i think ill start testing the lighting a bit and after that add in all the smaller objects to scene. Everything in this project will be modeled from scratch, as i dont really have any old/finished models laying around that will suit this kitchen.

#20

Did some more work on this last night and quick test render this morning with a quick light set up to see were im at with this. Still quite a bit of modeling that needs to be done before i will start adding textures.

Edit: added the image again.
