Here is an environment I am working on.
I am trying to achieve a colorful / stylized piece. I am kind of stuck on the 2nd stage of the process. The colors are not what I had in mind; maybe more pastel, bright and happy, yet still have a concrete design and look to it. Kind of like Rayman Origins.

My colors are become desaturated in some places, but I will fix that soon.

When it comes to achieving a specific feel with your color palette, you have to understand how values affect your color choices. Saturation is only part of the equation, and you must combine saturation level with the optimal value level in order to achieve the look you want (the right level of chroma). With pastel colors, your values must be light, and in your image, you values are generally a lot darker than what’s required for a pastel feel.

I guess that depends on what you currently still aren’t happy with. You said you want a bright and colorful scene with pastel colors–is that still your goal?
I guess I am not really sure anymore. I would like it to be a little more colorful and happier, but not to much. Maybe just exaggerating some of the colors to make it more stylized.
If that’s the case, why not just bump with the saturation/vividness level in Photoshop and see if that achieves the look you want? You can also try lightening up the darker values so the you can get a stronger sense of color into the shadows.
I think I am getting closer to what I want. I have added more color and atmosphere and the drawing is practically finished. Any nit picky things that can be improved on to make it look more naturalistic ( Contrast, color, perspective, lighting, etc.) I about ready to add the finishing touches and cleaning up some areas.
I don’t think natural is the look you’re going for? Didn’t you say you wanted a stylized, vibrant look?
It looks good to me. Go for the finishing line. Keep in mind that your shadow areas will get the blue sky dome bouncing blue light onto them.
Thanks a lot Lunatique for your help through out this piece. My foreground is getting pretty dark, so I think adding those bounce lights should do the trick.
Edit: I didnt realize the pic i posted before was super small.
One thing that I can’t quite work out is where the sun is. Presumably up and left, but then what’s casting shadow on that waterfall cliff in the background. Also I think the sky is lacking a little bit of a highlight in it - it’s too mid-toned for a clear day and needs a bit of bite, imo.
