WIP Character: "Protector"

W.I.P.

I showed this model (actually pictures of this model) to the attendees of the most recent MAAM user group meeting in Philadelphia PA. I did not have the wire frames to show at the time so I have posted them here today.

I have been trying to settle on the overall look of my project and I am leaning towards an toon-lined/ semi-realistic style.

Click on the thumbnails for larger views.

This is still a WIP. I have yet to complete a number of things with this model that I intend to complete.

Such as:

Costume changes.
Adding hair to the model.
Finishing the rigging and smart skinning of the model.
Applying textures to the model.

Any questions, comments, and/ or constructive critisism is welcome.

Thanks to Middle Kid for posting his eyeball model at the Hash forum awhile ago. I am using it in this model.

Excellent model. The one thing I noticed, based on the first pic, the front plane of the face may be a little too flat. I would expect to see a little less of the distant eye as it wraps around the head.

Look fantastic. That body is great. I love the complimentary coloration on the suit.
Do you wan’t a critique ? I only noticed one thing that looks ’ off '.

Thanks for the replies and feedback.

Vegan: If you feel that something is a bit “off” feel free to let me know. I have no problems with you letting me know what you think.

Thanks again

Can I post some modifications to your image here so that you can see what I mean ?
( I’d like to get your permission before marking all over your image. )

The main area that looks 'off ’ is the jaw. It has too much of a curve to it.

Looking forward to seeing more !

Nice looking model! I like the sense of design.

The only thing that I would suggest is that you could merge the two splines on the arm which are hooking towards each other. I am talking about the hook on the bottom of the shoulder and the hook at the side of the bicep (looking at the last wire that you provided). It is kind of hard to explain exactly but if you want I could do a paint over.

I am thinking that it would just help to ensure that there arn’t any problems later on.

Hello again everyone.

Thanks again for the continued feedback. I really do appreaciate it.

Roger: Thanks for your observation. I took another look at the face and studied it for awhile. I can’t say that any flatness of the face really jumps out at me. I guess that I should add that I am not shooting for 100% anatomical accuracy in the head really.

See, I actually started off trying to emulate the style of face commonly seen in anime but as I continued to model I decided that I should leave that kind of style for another project. So, as I continued to model that face I decided to make it more realistic but not “real”.

Vegan: I appreciate you asking to modify my image before doing it. Thanks but there is no need to show me what you are talking about. I can see what you are saying just by looking at it.

Yes the jaw is a bit curved but it only really gets my attention when I look at it in wireframe. When I render it close to final quality it does not disturb me any. Even so, I think I will experiment with slight jaw variations before I finish this up.

John: Thanks for sounding off. I see the splines that you are talking about but they are not adjacent to each other. In order for me to join the two, I’d have to have one of them intersect the spline that runs between them and that is a no no.

After looking at that bicep hook though, I can say that I did not need to hook it as close to the shoulder as I have. Maybe I will bring it down one ring lower to see what it looks like.

If I do bring it down one ring. I don’t even think it would even change anything. It would render the same and it would not cause any problems with joint flexing once the rigging is complete.

If I am misunderstanding what you are saying let me know.

Thanks again.

THe face area does seem slightly “flat”, but it still looks great. Excellent modeling overall.
