WIP Acting Piece with 2 Characters

#1

Hello Everyone: I’m in the middle of this project and I can’t help but feel that the action is stiff and that I’m having some trouble with the overlapping and with the timing. I haven’t added props or done a face pass yet or gone into any of the detailing on the fingers. But any help that I could get on polishing the breakdown and fixing the overlapping would be greatly appreciated…really any help at all would be appreciated.

Thanks, Sophia

Woah, you don’t have to create 3 threads on the same subject  . Just message one of the mod to take the other 2 down.

This is still your blocking stage, so the good news is that any changes in timing and posing at this stage is still quite a quick fix. I don’t advise you to jump in add breakdowns or delaying keys just yet.
Somethings to take note while you are blocking are:

  1. Posing.
The posing of the right guy is not working very well, the spine is straight. In a pinch, I would throw the character in a contrapposto pose, and angle him to favor the camera. Although I would take the time to experiment in front of a camera, I don’t think you could go wrong with trying a relaxed contrapposto pose.

  2. Timing.
The timing of your main poses is kinda there, but I think its when you go from stepped to spline thats giving you this drifting and sluggish movement. I believe Keith Lango’s blog has good tips on how to deal with that.

Lastly, you just need to cover-up that IK-ness of your arms in your breakdown phase by paying attention to your arcs and moving holds.

Keep animating!
