why object source collides with fumefx simulation?

#1

hey all,

sorry for the double post. i already posted this in the fumefx thread, but i guess it probably gets more attention here:

i am emitting from an object sourc. what happens is: even though i have free flow activated on the object source, the fluid collides with the mesh, showing its shilouette through the fluid. this is not wanted of course. i tried animating the mesh out of the container after the emission, but that also influences the simulation in a way that it seems to delete all the smoke it passes through. this seems like a bug to me because there’s no difference if free flow is activated or not. but maybe i am missing something obvious…

it would also be cool to emit from within an object, like filling its volume, and not just from its surface… this seemsto be possible for simple sources but not objects…

anyone else experiencing this or knows a workaround?
thx

ok, i guess i found a workaround for this issue: i applied a relax modifier on the object and animated its values, that way the object gets so thin and small it doesn’t interfere with the sim anymore…

It’s on the feature request list… for now you could probably fill up a character up wtih particles, or like you did, use a smaller mesh…

I had the problem that when I import an object (not trough a source) and set its velocity multiplier to 0, then fume does not collide with that object.

now I bet you in your source you have objectspeed set to 1. maybe that’s the problem.
also if your extra vel (which is out of the surface normal afaik) in the source is set to 1, and the surface is moving slower, this cold cause your fume to have a collision, or get pushed away from the surface.

try setting those to 0. hope it helps.

thanks for the ideas but i already turned all the velocities down to zero…still same problem. :curious:
