Hi folks
I learn anatomy and in all books i have read so far the bones on the hands and feet are connected close to each other with elastic and strong tissue.Not separated that much like on these images.
Is something wrong with the images or they really are that far.The image is from an atlas of human anatomy

This looks like an xray of a fetus, or it’s been retouched to highlight parts of some bones, to teach medical students. In any case, you should disregard it and look for a better reference.
It has not been retouched. It is an X-ray from an infant. Only fully calcified bone shows white on xray photographs. You can see the different forms of bone-growth if you look well. The long bones (metacarpals e.g.) are being calcified by a mineralizing front that emerges from the epiphysiary discs (growth discs) at either end of a long bone. You can see the other type in the little bones of the foot, where the mineralization cores are visible.
But as Mr. Stahlberg already pointed out, it’s not a very good reference from an artistic point of view 
I have a first year Medical Anatomy book and in which there are pictures of Infants and small children having huge gaps not only in the hands and feet but also their skulls,Where there are large semi translucent cartiliginous plates holding the bones together.In adults finally these become solid sutures on the skull.Reason being children can survive moderate blows to the head and still get away without any brain haemmoraging because of the malleability.
