where does PS CS6 store its auto save information?

Hi Guys,

call me stupid, but where the heck is photoshop storing those 10 minute auto saves you can set in the preferences?
I hade a file which i could not save (always got the message ‘can’t save due to program error’ no matter where I tried saving the file), so i thought, well… you have the auto save features… so I closed PS and did not save (since it wasn’t working).
Now I’m trying to actually find one of those auto saves in order to not do the last 2 hours of work yet again…

Any ideas?

P.S: Photoshop did not crash, i closed it in a normal manner.
P.P.S: Adobe Cs6 and win7

Never mind, found the folder. But guess what, it’s empty. Photoshop actually deletes everything in that folder if you close the programme. So if you are unable to save, like i was, don’t close PS, kill it! or kill the whole system! stupid programme…

Looking at Adobe’s website would probably help more but with CS6 i’ve found that if it crashes, then yes the auto save is empty, but when you reopen the program, everything opens just like it was before. They might be hidden files and not able to directly open them.

If it really crashes, the folder is not empty. And if it really crashes, it also opens up the last auto saved. However, if you close it properly - like I did - but just can’t save the file for some unkwon reason. It deletes the auto-save files after closing it, because it assumed everything went fine and there is no need for an older version -.-. Pretty annoying.

It deletes the auto saves on close to save space. They take up a lot of room if left unattended. Personally I think they should be kept there as most computers now have large hard drives. An easy to find delete button in preferences would mean we could clear the folder whenever we wanted to.

Since I just had the same Problem again and was pissed at the guy who started this thread, for not posting the bloody path to the AutoSave folder, here it is:

C:\Users[Your username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\AutoRecover

:banghead:
