I didn’t see on their website, perhaps was a mistake but when will Mudbox 2009 (is it the Mudbox 2?) be released? The final version I mean.
When will Mudbox 2009 come out?
If this is the first version released by Autodesk, why version 1.0.7 has the name changed from Skymatter to Autodesk?
I suppose that the “Mudbox 2009” is the version 2?
This is the first release under Autodesk. As they bought Skymatter and intergrated Mudbox into the Autodesk naming scheme ( which I personally dislike. but anyway)…so Maya 2009, Max 2009 and Mudbox 2009 ( AKA Mudbox 2 ).
Hope it clears stuff up!
It’s about time Autodesk released mac versions of 3DS max and MB. I don’t see the point of them not developing a mac version especially with the growing popularity of apple computers. Anyone know if there are plans for a mac version of Mudbox?
Also, does anyone know if Autodesk has implemented a policy similar to 3DS Max whereby you have to pay a liscencing fee just to use Mudbox every year wether you upgrade or not. This is my only fear of buying any Autodesk products. I don’t want to have the application lock up if I don’t pay my yearly fee.
Thanks

Mac version of Mudbox? I suppose Never
You see… Autodesk software is so “intergraded” with windows shell… Its almost impossible for them to re-write and get them work with Mac.
P.S. Believe me… Mac growth in popularity won’t last long… windows will capsize again in not too long from now.
You may be right,it may be a lot of work to port Mudbox to the mac, but if anyone could do it Autodesk could, look at all of the resources they have. Well I may not agree with you on the Mac issue as I think they are growing ganbusters but I agree that MB may never see a Mac machine unless it is in Parallels or Bootcamp… I still think the will has to be there first. I think Autodesk underestimates the number of studios and artist that use apple who would jump at the chance to buy a mac version of Mudbox, but I digress…
Mudbox or ZBrush?
So now i have to decide if I want to use a more intuitive application like MB, but have to boot into Windows or use a more non intuitive (my opinion) application like ZBrush and stay 100% on Mac. Not sure I have the answer yet.
UV unwrap in Mudbox
How difficult is it to unwrap a model in Mudbox. IMO it is a fairly complicated task in ZBrush but I’d like to know if Mudbox has made it fairly straight forward. DO you know of any good tutorials explaining how to unwrap a model in Mudbox?
Liscencing
Lastly, what is the liscencing of mudbox like? Do you actually own it like ZBrush for instance or do you have to pay Autodesk a yearly or quarterly liscencing fee?
Thanks
there are no unwrapping features in mud…
out there are so manny really cool unwrapping tools like uv-layout or unfold3D…
there is no need for unwrapping tools in mud…
What no UV unwrap! If I can’t create a UV map of my model in MB then I think my decision between MB and ZBrush is a lot easier. So do you mean there’s no UV unwrap in Mudbox Version 1.0 or in Mudbox 2009? I can’t possibly see Autodesk leaving this out of MB 2009.
So in MB 2009 you have to create the UV map in a 3D app and then use that in Mudbox?
Thanks
so it is… whats the problem with uv mapping in maya, max or xsi…?
if you need quik uvs use the automatic funktions of these apps… 2 klicks…
the zbrush uvs are a big mess…
uvs are complicated in zbrush?! its a single button
under the tool/texturing pane, press autouv.
done.
the arent meant to be used to 2d paint on, but if you plan to use 3d painters, then its fine

Please let us know when it is released! And Autodesk please let us know if a mac version is in the works?
Any links or good reviews, artwork etc showing Mudbox in action? Thanks
Gosh am I the only one who wants a mac version of this?
Yeah, I agree, but maybe they (Autodesk) will suprise us mac users. We can only hope! I emailed Autodesk requesting this about 2 weeks ago. I think if they get enough mac users requesting this they will take it more seriously.
