What should I set Dynamic Memory Limit to?

#1

I have 18 GBs of Ram and an i7 Cpu. How do I set up my dynamic memory limit settings?

#2

Also, I don’t think I’m getting the performance that I should be getting. Is there anything I’m missing?

#3

Which renderer?

#4

Good question, I guess I should have included that. I use Vray.

You should leave 3 or so GB for system stuff, so I’d set my dynamic memory limit to around 15GB. Your render times will be much better there as opposed to the default.

I have 12 GB, and my DML is set to 9800 but I am very anal about which process stay active, and I turn off almost everything via msconfig and services.msc

Sounds good. I also have a question regarding my RAM in BIOS. You said you’re using 12GBs, this means you enabled their speed in BIOS, right? My current memory frequency is set too low and I need it set to 1600 MHz to match the speed of my two RAM sets. Yes, I’m using two different Ram sets and it is complicated. I need the timings on both sets to be configured to be allowed to up my RAM, problem is, I don’t know what to set them to with them being two different brands.

If I’m not wrong, I think I remember reading Vlado suggesting in chaos group forums that we should set it to half the physical memory we have.

#8

Is this the global control for all our power settings or is there another way to get more performance. I have 18GBs of RAM and I see no performance increase since I upgraded.

#9

If the scenes you are rendering didnt use up more that the amount of ram you used to have you probably wouldnt see any performance difference.

Alright, thank you.
