I was playing with Combustion keyers, and the new one came with version 4, Diamond Keyer…
i think it came from Flame right…but the problem is, it seems like the results of Linear Keyer is better than Diamond Keyer…can this be ? What are the advantages of Diamond keyer if you guys know ?
What is the best keyer ?
Hi,
I’m still using combustion 3, but check this link out. There is some tutorial and info about diamond keyer. Hereis another…
…downloading combustion 4 demo now
With the diamond keyer, you can pull keys even when someone did a poor job of setting up the blue/green screen, since you can define certain color ranges to work with (along with color ranges for softness and tolerance levels). In general, it is much more flexible, and will produce much better results when you learn to use it well. The linear keyer requires an almost flawless green screen setup to pull a decent key.
the diamond keyer seems to be based on the Discreet master keyer. Which is part of it flint/flame/inferno architecture. The Master eyer was implemented at the request of many FFI users who found the modular keyer too cumbersome and difficult (which it was … both). The modular keyer was built on a node based paradigm which allowed users to combine multiple oprations, ‘sub-keyers’ and logical operations into one ‘modular’ operation. The Basic keyer within this was the 3dKeyer which drew most of the criticisms as it was quite unique in its approach and complicted ( it could yeild unbeelivable results too !)
Basically from what I can deduce the diamond keyer is designed to be as simplistic a keyer as possible and integrate as much of the cool technology of ffi keyers as possible. Many FFI users will recognise its similarity to the selective colour correction options in the colour warper.
after viewing the quick time on fxguide for the modular keyer there is no going back…well almost
.
i wonder why the heck didn’t discreet just let us have the whole Color warper module instead
. or the modular keyer tee hee

The diamond keyer is not based on the master keyer. Its rather the selectives section of the color warper.
I think its good if your FG differs from the BG in the hue spectrum (not so much in luminance).
With the modular keyer I quite often find myself resetting everything and start from scratch (I mean, is there ANYBODY out there who actually uses this 3D Color range display??)
