From a rigger’s point of view, what would be a good pose for quadruped models to be sent over to riggers?
What is a good pose for quadruped for rigging?

H Pose, like dead rat flattened by a truck on the road.
Ha, I think it depends on your creature. Keeping legs straight ahead helps.

For me, relaxed natural standing pose, mouth slightly open, tail straight out the back, facing along +z with approx center of gravity above the origin.
If somebody gave me a flattened rat I’d send it back for remodelling (unless the shot required a flattened rat of course).

Agreed!
Here is a really good reference for a quadruped character: http://www.rigging101.com/free/rigs/greatdane_facial.zip
