What in the world is col?

#1

I’ve been working with LW for years but for the life of me I have never ran into something so frustrating. I’ve never had problems grouping points and polys but now, there’s this thing in polygon statistics, the last line col:(none)…

What the heck is that thing. Everytime I try to group for export to .obj file for zbrush, this freaky thing shows up with a group named (none) in my .obj file. It’s never happened to me b4 and I have absolutely NO clue what it is. Color!!!??? doesn’t make any sense.
So for my own sanity and the life and property of those around me. What is that crap? and more importantly, how do I DEAL with it?

Yes, it’s for color (or colour in the Queen’s English :D)

It’s referring to the sketch colour. When you open the statistics and it says none, click on the little triangle next to it and it should show you the default sketch colour, probably grey.

Mine is set to blue so if I create a box and look at the statistics window it should have “blue” available under “col”. Now if I select one of the faces, go to Detail - Sketch color and select green, I should now have “green” available in the “col” drop down. By selecting any of the colours in that drop down and clicking the + symbol it will select all of the faces assigned to that colour.

It’s just another way of saving selection sets and being able to recall them via the statistics window.

In fact is quite useful when you use different sketch colors modeling different meshes of a huge model, it’s a powerful selection tool
