everyone should know what katamari damacy is by now,its a cool game for ps2,i was reading about it and such,i saw the team who made it in this months issue of game developer magazine,i was wondering what game engine it was made with?i saw they used 3ds max and photoshop and illustrator and optpix to make the game,it was a team of 21 full time staff and 1.5 years to make this, also 13 broken controllers i read making it,hehe, here is a link of the game if you dont know about it, http://www.namco.com/games/katamari_damacy/
what game engine is katamari damacy made in?
That is probably the case as it is the Engine that takes most time of the development.
1.5 years with an already finished engine would probably, um, make a bigger/better game? Or am I totally wrong? :S
Where can I get a copy of the Game Developer Magazine? Do you have to subscribe to it or can you buy it at newsstands?
i buy Game Developer Magazine at the Barnes and Noble book store or fry’s electronics,im thinking about getting me a subscription soon,i been buying this magazine for over 2yrs now,i know the bill is adding up,here is there website if you are intrested, http://www.gdmag.com/homepage.htm
Is that the one where you play a “dung beatle” who has to make a giant ball compressed with anything unfortunate to be in it’s path?
Never got a UK release…
in the game developer article they talk a lot about the games’ design but they do not mention anything about the engine. it’s a great article!.. i bet they will post it on gamasutra.com soon enough (if they haven’t already)
Does anyone know how they were able to pull off this idea? I mean you roll around picking up more and more objects. I wonder how they hid or removed poly’s off the screen as your ball gets bigger. I think you would gather Polys pretty quickly and slow down processing power (even though models were pretty simple)… Anyway it is a pretty adictive game.
