What camera for photogrammetry?

Hello

Im going probably to be using photoscan a lot in the future and for this reason i need a new photocamera, belive it or not, but the best i have currently is some cheap MOBILE (!) phone camera (samsung around 5MPx) and a really old (7+years) 3MPx digi camera. None of these are seriously useable for photogrammetry.

Ill be using Photoscan mainly for photographing (“scanning”) single objects (max the size of a car, but usually smaller, even a lor small (lets say around 10 cm only). I would also like to use this camera (DSLR probably or the equivalent without mirror) for general texture taking. Thats all, and yeah, only TIME to TIME TAKING general family etc. pictures. Mainly photogrammetry and then textures.

I would like a camera around 500 USD, maximally really around 750 USD, nothing more expensive. Im not that skilled in photogrammetry yet but i belive there are cameras that are “somehow” (in some parametrs) more suitable for photogrametry than others, thats why im asking here.

Thanks for tips :-)!

Removing lens distortion will add another step to the scanning process if you use a lens that suffers from some distortion. Most zoom lenses have at least some distortion. I’d probably get a Canon T5i with the stock lens for general use and then the Canon 50mm f1.8 lens for textures and scans (prime lens so there won’t be distortion, cheap, very good image quality for the money). If that pushes the budget too much the older Canon cameras are still very nice like the T4i.
