Hello everyone!

My name is Timothy Eustace, and I’m currently working as an Environment Modeller and Layout artist for an animated feature film in Sydney Australia. I previously worked as a Junior modeller on Prometheus alongside other matte painters and compositors, and have always been a huge fan of matte painters and the landscapes they create, and it only just recently occurred to me that I too could one day be a Matte Painter if I continue to push myself. I had originally been concentrating on becoming better at 3D environment modelling, and texturing while studying compositing and lighting/rendering techniques, and upon stumbling across David Luong’s Matte painting course online, I signed up and am now putting any spare minutes I have towards learning everything he’s been teaching.

I’m really excited about this opportunity and hope that I learn and experience everything I can, so that I can one day contribute back to everyone who has inspired and motivated me.

See you all again soon, and thank you!

Timothy Eustace

Hi all,
I’ve finished David Luong’s excellent Photorealistic Matte Painting CGworkshop and loved every minute!

My name is Derek and I’m based in Norwich, UK. I’m 32 and I have a full-time position as a visualisation artist at LSI Architects, so arch-vis is my main background. I’ve been there over 10 years now.

I’m hoping to find some time to really get into Matte Painting, and hopefully land a few small freelance gigs too. Loads of concepts in my head that haven’t yet made it outside…

Looking forward to getting involved here.

As part of the community, I would like to encourage everybody to join the Vimeo Matte Painting group http://vimeo.com/groups/mattepainting and contribute any/all quality Matte Painting related videos to the pool. Be it something you came across and found inspiring or Matte Painting work you have created on your own and feel passionate about. This can go nicely hand in hand with our forum discussions. David is a moderator there as well and can be our helpful link between the two platforms. Thank you all in advance.

Thanks Milan, another excellent resource here! I’ll be adding this to the Tome of Knowledge too, and any other professional demo reels I may find as well.

Hi all… !

My name is Benjamin and im from france. When i discovered photoshop, i was passionned by illustration, making stuff like logo, flyer, business card etc… But 5 months ago i discovered matte painting, and i really felt in love with that… I love to watch every matte painting when i’m watching movie and on internet ! (There is my deviant art : http://rainth34.deviantart.com/gallery/ )

So now i try to become a matte painter, and i’m kinda “blocked”… Feel like i work for nothing, dont become better, and lost my motivation ( BUT NOT MY PASSION !) and i dont know what to do… !

I try to apply into a VFX school in France (Montpellier) Called ARTFX. But i dont have enough diploma to go in, so i sent a mail to the director, and now im waiting his answer…Maybe this is the key to my futur ! so if anyone have advice or somehting… welcome ! :stuck_out_tongue:

And sorry if its a bit long, and if my english is crappy.

Ben !
