Water splash and bubble FX

#1

Hi, CG Folks!

This is my second post in CG Society. I’d like to ask questions about water splashes, bubbles and underwater effects.

I have a scene where by an object drops to water. It is supposed to be underwater scene, so that when the object drops, we’ll see bubbles, splashes and water ripples. That includes the lighting etc. as well.

My question: is it done in 3D software rendering or in post-editing (compositing)? And how to achieve that? FYI, I’m using Maya for the 3D modeling and After Effects for the compositing.

The next scene would be the object being pulled out of the water. How to create the effect of water drips from the object? Any modeling required for the water drops or done is compositing?

Thanks for your helps! I really appreciate your comments.

Cheers!
