Walkcycle, with Global control move or other?

#1

Hi,

This might be so simple for you, but I met with this problem so want to clarify.
I am doing a walk cycle of a character. I made first 2 steps smoothly, now I want to repeat the same steps for successive walk. How can I do it?

As per my knowledge one way is to animate for first 2 steps, then cycle with offset for controls, & Global control move. But it skids the legs.

Another way is to copy paste all the keys & paste manually on time slider.
Or with Trax editor ( but it doesn’t activate keys except for first clip ). I want to change some face movements in this walk.

So, please help me out.

Thanks & Regards,
Vin

You can try activate “pre” and “post” cycle in Graph editor, and do additional head movement on another animation layer.

Similar to previous case. Make a clip for walk, cycle it in Trax editor and make another clip only for head movement.

Can i copy paste the keys for further walk ahead. I am doing it but it’s getting some jerks in further moves. I don’t know why…

You can copy keys by selecting range on a timeline with SHIFT then right click ->copy, and pasting further (right click on timeline and paste).

It would be easier to understand whats wrong if You post some images.

Hey…thanks for reply. Well I will surely upload images for my queries… Just tell me, which is the most convenient & preferable method for walk-cycle?

  1. manually do successive walk cycle
  2. copy-paste keys on timeline
  3. Trax editor.

Or anything else??

I would prefer Trax.

If You need to do only very few steps You might want use manual method so the steps will not look all the same, but for more trax will be best soultion.

Thanks,

One more silly question
Can I modify the keys in clips duplicated in Trax editor. When I copy paste clips, & when I go for “Activate keys”, it activates keys for first clip only.

It activates a selected clip but it just puts keys in a timeline starting from first frame.

Also pay attention to the options when You duplicate clips.
If You have got “Duplicate input connections” unchecked You will create an instance of clip so whenever You change clip, a duplicate will also change.
If You have got “Duplicate input connections” checked You will create an independent copy.

Probably You had “Duplicate input connections” unchecked while copying, and when You changed keys in selected clip, the first source clip also changed and this might make You think that You activated keys of first clip.
