Wacom and CS3 - straight lines issue

#1

Hi all,

I’ve found this bug that is really bugging me

In Cs3, and using a wacom tablet (ive tried both intuos3 and graphire2), when you make straight lines by clicking with pen, hold shift, and then click again in another place to make a straight line, the result isnt really what it should be…

Instead of making a straight line that it’s opacity/size is defined by the strengh of your pen clicks, the result is always the same: a gradually smaller/more transparent line, that fades out at all to the 2nd click. See attached picture to see what i mean…

I’ve tried changing the tablets, but when i tested in CS2, the problem is gone!! Reinstalling drivers didnt work also…

Anyone experienced this also? Im thinking it must be some CS3 bug, or maybe its just mine thats messed up…

Thanks

hate to say it but it is not a bug and it is not your install that my friend is the effect you get with that technique. for a solid line use the line tool.

Well, then maybe adobe changed the way that using that technique works in CS3, because in CS2 you can perfectly use that and keep the line opacity/size varying depending on the clicks pressure… I mean, in CS2 you can join the dots using that, and in CS3 its impossible…

Using the line tool is ok, but its almost the same as if you use a mouse with the click+shift+click technique…

It really sucks IMO, maybe CS4 will allow this as before. I just thought it was weird since i didnt found any post or any document in google concerning this issue…

Thanks,

Hi MigMax. You haven’t actually told us what tool you’re using, but I’m going to assume you’re using the Brush Tool.

Have you checked the Brushes options? Namely the Brushes Palette>Shape Dynamics>Size Jitter>Control pulldown menu? If you're using a tablet and want pen pressure control, it should be set to "Pen Pressure" and not "Fade". "Fade" sets an automatic fade for the brush, which is what I think I'm seeing in your image, and not what you're after. I suspect the brushes you're using in CS3 are set to "Fade" and the brushes you're using in CS2 are set to "Off" or "Pen Pressure". That's why it appears that the two apps are behaving differently.

Nice portfolio, by the way.

Yes, sorry i haven’t clearly said that i was using the brush tool, even though thats pretty much self-explanatory when i talk about pressure and the image speaks for itself. But yes, its the brush tool indeed.

And yes, it’s all well defined, set to pen pressure and not fade  would be very noob, but could happen eheh. That’s why i even tried a bunch of brushes.

Thanks

Yeah, just making sure.

cs4 isnt much better :frowning:

#8

i dunno if its better or not, really, but as regarding my problem, its fine! i can make straight lines now without having each line fading away

Somehow i feel like REAL photoshop ended in CS2…maybe it was more pure…i dunno

i think what happens features are added and then WE become slaves to the features. I was just thinking the other day when i couldnt get a gradient the way i wanted. Hey wait i used to DRAW gradients with graphite… i used to airbrush them or paint them in water color. I really need to stop complaining and just draw
