Vue Passes...

#1

Hi all,
I’ve a question about Vue passes.

Is there any way to create an “alpha” or “matte” of Spectral Clouds ?!

In depth … if I’ve a spectral sky with clouds and relative animation, how can I generate the clouds’s alpha channel?. I must insert (in compositing) a jpg background image, but in vue rendering the god rays, and in general the fog and vue environment, don’t allow me to have an alpha channel to paste my background jpg image behind or between the clouds.

Another example… if I have an airplane into the clouds, how can I generate the airplane Matte or Alpha between the clouds ?!
Have I to render all in Vue ?! If my airplane rendering is in maya, max,or cinema… I cannot make a correct compositing because the Spectral clouds don’t allow me to have separate passes (alpha or matte).

Thanks

Sorry, other than using a key color of sorts, there is no way to extract any alpha information from spectral clouds in Vue.

Hi Chip does your set of tools provide rendering in passes? and how do you achieve flicker free renders with vegetation?

Solomon,
I’m not exactly sure what your question is, but I have a number of different tools for Vue. There is VueTools, which is all created in Python and works only in Vue6-Infinite and Xstream, and then there is TerraPak, which is a collection of materials, templates, atmospheres, render settings, objects and terrains, which works in Xstream, Infinite and Esprit.

While VueTools has coding behind it, TerraPak includes material templates and a robust user manual, but no code. I’m currently working on a new ‘application’ add-on for Vue which is mostly code-based and hopefully soon will be available for Xstream, Infinite and Esprit users.

So, flicker free vegetation in TerraPak is accomplished the same way it is with regular Vue renderings-- judicious use of anti-aliasing and motion blur.

best, Chipp
