Vue & Mental-Ray - 3DS MAX 9

Some questions about noise…

1.6 Mb

I work with Max 9/32 bit and Vue xStream 6.5. Render through MRay.
Try different sampling (approx 1-16), antialiasin mode, and level of quality in Vue (pref. Ultra- or Super-). In any way - a have and hate this noise.
ALL ways of upsampling not solve the problem but dramatically increase rendertime.
Also - Increase texture filtering - make trees - like snowballs.

Have you any ideas to solve this trouble?

I am doing some testing on my own right now to figure out how to get rid of this problem. I hope to post something along with some before / after footage later this week.

At this point, I am having the most luck playing with the object anti-aliasing settings. I am not using stream - but this probably translates. By raising the min and max - subrays per pixel and the general quality threshold seems to make a big difference. My current test seems to almost have it all gone with a min at 40 and max at 100 and qlty set to 80%. For my sample, texture filtering does not seem to play a big role. The min / max setting seem to affect render time less that the qlty setting.

With that said, I would expect different settings for different problems will play a big role.

Cliche time:
The hard part is that quality comes with render time. Vue just needs a lot more than most expect, or want.

We have had posts about this before and almost all of them increase render time, unfortunetly.

Now, I solve problem partially, by increase texture smoothness and “Volume” atmosphere quality.
But in second scene, with Spectral atmosphere - I can’t inrease texture smoothing more than 0%. You can see Crisp image with green trees and high noise vs good quality of white trees.
