Vue and Maya 2008

#1

Hey all,
I’m currently trying to use to vue 6.5 X stream to add grass, trees and Sky to a pre built maya scene, with a camera animation, this should be possible right? only when i try to add trees to the scene in maya, i can only position the trees via VUE, which doesn’t show my maya model, how are people ment to position vegitation etc accuratley? also, i’d like to be able to just use the sky trees etc from vue, and not the lighting, is that possible, or do the Vue trees etc have to be lit via Vue shaders. Thanks for any help you can give me, chris.

First question. you have to make a copy of your geometry and import it into vue for proper placing of vegetation. Lame. Yes. I tried doing a top screen shot of my gemoetry and mapping that to the plane within vue to help assist with the placement, however you cannot specify what resolution the OGL of the texture displayes at so this method is pretty useless. Plus the OGL in vue is so horrific most of the time your ground terrain will be a half visible triangulated mesh of gargage.

Second question. No this is not possible, You have to use vue lighting and atmosphere.

Thanks dude,
Thats helped clear a few things up, one more thing tho, as soon as i click the add Vue sky / scene button on the shelf in Maya, it stops me selecting any of the maya objects, unless i use the outliner, and then i can move any of the objects, rorate scale, etc, unless i restart Maya! u know of a way around this , sooo annoying. cheers, chris.

I’m using it with Lightwave so I can’t help you with that. Sorry.
