vrml - texture color depth

#1

Does anyone know if there is any limitation on number of colors in textures used in vrml scene. I have made a simple scene with jpeg texture containing a color ramp. But when I preview it in vrml clients the texture looks strange - like it can not display full color range.

Thanks for replies

I am not aware of color limitation in vrml, could it be your display option?

I export vrml to java 3d applet and the only thing I notice is the alpha blending, not smooth.

Well, I think the problem is in the vrml viewers. I am using CFD data postprocessor Amira and I intendet to add some realistic objects (it is able to import vrml (open inventor) scenes). I try to display it on nvidia and ati cards, on linux and windows and with different vrml viewers (Octaga and SceneViewer) - the result is still the same:

on the left is the plate texture and on the right the final scene without lights.

OK, the solution is to switch off the texture compression in the prog. I hope it is possible in the client I am using
