Vray render textures from hdd?

#1

I am trying to render a scene with a lot of textures, but in the end I run out of ram. I heard mental ray has this .map that can load textures straight from HDD rather than loading them into ram, but can vray do something like that?

If you are using V-Ray for Maya you might try using tiled and mip-mapped OpenEXR textures.

No, sadly I use 3ds max.

How many ram you use? I never run out of ram cause of textures and we definitly do a lot of large scale scenes. You can try to optimize your ram usage if you alter the BSP Tree and the dynamic memory settings. Or you can try to work more with xrefs and proxys! aso.

GoodLuck
