Hi,
I can’t get displacements to work without artifacts. I’m using openexr 32bit RGBA.
They occur whether I use mental ray, vray, export with subdivision or raycasting, etc.
Also it appears that my displacement map has a very minor effect - I definitely have ‘allow negative colors’ on it. I also have tried upping the displacement amount but it requires 5.0 to get the detail, and it looks ugly as hell.
I am using a linear workflow that may or may not affect it. I have linear multiply, gamma 2.2, affect background on, subpixel mapping on, dont affect colors (adaption only) on, linear workflow on, affect swatches on.
A lot of the detail is missing. Here are some images that show the missing detail and artifacts, first is my render, second is mudbox sculpt.
