Hi all,
Thought I would post this in modeling, although the right approach could also be an effect/plugin. Depending on the settings, when rendering with Vray + GI light cache, the map preview shown in the frame buffer usually has this interesting pattern where it averages clusters of tonal values and makes your geometry look like it’s faceted. See my attachment if you don’t know what I’m referring to.
This is supposed to be a regular cylinder, but I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to model/create something like this.
Zbrush’s Trim Dynamic brush would be a good starting point and produce really good results, but on a complex model, this would be very time consuming. I was thinking more of a C4D Polygon Reduction type of approach, but instead of outputting triangles, a technique that produces n-gons spread uniformly across a surface would be amazing. Zbrush voronoid noiseplug is another fairly close procedural approach, but it produces rouded clusters vs flat and it requires really high-resolution mesh to get very defined sharp edges.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
