Vray glass

Hello all,

In Vray for Maya an IOR of 1.5(which is what i learnt in the physics class light has) will deform any object that is behind my glass object dramatically,the fix i keep finding for this is setting the IOR to 1 which doesn`t sound that physicaly correct and will affect the angle of total reflection resulting in a wrong fresnel effect.Is there a better solution for this?

An ior value of 1.5 to 1.6 is correct for most glasses.

If you look through a glass it bends light just like you describe, this is correct behaviour.

Air has an ior of approximatly 1.0002926… but in 99.9% of the cases you wont notice the difference between this and just 1.0.

1.0 means light goes straight through and does not get bent. If thats the effect you are after then use 1.0.

If you want correct glass refractions then look up that particular glass type’s ior (quite easy to find, theres even a table on wikipedia if i am not mistaken) and use that.

the problem is that light bends too much for a car windshield, at 1.5 it looks like a fisheye lens .coud it be because i’ve made the glass too thick?

yes, possibly…

a cars windshield is about 0,635 cm (0,25 inch) thick
