Vray for Maya night sky

#1

I’ve been working on a still lately, and I’ve finally gotten around to lighting it. I am a beginner both with lighting and with Vray, so I’ve done my best to search for a solution but everything I find is for 3ds Max and I am unable to duplicate it in Maya. When I create a sun and place it into a night position, everything including the sky becomes blue. I’ve tried dome lights and HDRI environments as well, but I wasn’t able to make anything worthwhile.

Does anyone have any pointers as to making a nighttime scene in Vray? For reference as to what I’m trying to achieve, my WIP thread is here.

Haha never mind I answered my own question. Turns out I was closer to the answer than I thought. If anyone stumbles upon this and wants to know, what I did was set up my environment with HDRI images but not use a sun or sky, and then add a directional light with low intensity and and blue-gray color for the moon.
