Hi, i’ve modelled a character but it’s not an unique mesh, it’s composed by many element like head, shirt, gloves, etc etc. many element have their displace map created with zbrush. now I want to rig and I’d prefer to collapse as many object as i can but so I don’t know how to use vray displacement. Sure I can use standard displace in every sub material but I think it’s slow and not precise like vray. any ideas?
vray displacement on different elements
I believe (not 100% sure) that if you use a normal displacement method in the material editor, vray automatically displaces the normal max displacement for the vray one. In my experience it’s just as fast as using the vray displacement modifier.
(there’s a tickbox somewhere in the vray settings that says override max displacement)
hope this helps.
You can apply a VrayDisplacementMod on your object, I think that’s the best option.
And yes, if you put a displace map in every material vray will take care of the displace with the global displace option, but I think it will be better with the modifier.
