VRay - Aliasing and moire on tight geometry

#1

Hey!

I have a problem, I simply can not get rid of:

I am rendering a special kind of ceiling that has a lot of geometry tight togehter and it produces aliasing and moire patterns. No matter what I set in the renderer it is still there.

I am using Maya with VRay: Adaptive DMC 1-8, Area-AA: 1.5, Irradiance Map and Light Cache for GI

Does anybody have an idea?

Anyone…? :frowning:

Change your AA Filter.

#4

That is what I did, but the only thing that worked was the Gaussian AA Filter. But (of course) the image gets very soft. So I wondered if there is any other way.

But well, I guess gaussian AA + post-render sharpen has to do the job

If your using a filetexture, vray has some specific texture filters in the file node, maybe they will help.

You’re not rendering an animation are you -
Gaussian is the nicest filter imho, if it’s too soft you can render at higher res and scale it down. Any filter that doesn’t soften will moire on this every time!
