VOTE! : FXWARS Close Encounters

#21

Roberto: that numbers are soooo impressive! It’s really satisfying to know that at least 2,500 people have seen ‘a glimpse’ of what we have been working on!

The compilation was really way cool! :scream: I like the different images before an entry was showed, and the nice intro-animation! You did a really great job on it, and out of the numbers it seems that lots of people have enjoyed it!

Wouldn’t it be good to think about putting the full entries in a similar compilation. Just one file in which all 5 entries are full-length showcased. It works really a lot better when people just get one file, with every time the membernames clearly in the frame, and so… We could host that one file on serveral servers, and have some different resolution-versions of it…?

Is the voting now closed? Just like Trey I don’t get to really vote (‘you allready voted’). Is that because I visited the voting-page too often yet?

Trey; great to hear that you’ll be (trying) to enter the upcoming FXWars! It will be a honor (and a challenge on its own) to us/me to ‘try to challenge you’! Thanks for your nice and helpful feedback on the ‘generous’ entries…! We really need to find a way to host the files better, so that really everybody has the same chances.

I also agree you (Trey) about the different voting aspects. Maybe we/Roberto should look which ones are clear enough, and which ones could better be left out? For instance lighting/shading, modeling, details, realism, cinematography and such things good be interesting (too)?

I agree with Joseph about his points. The compilation is great, and I also doubt if really so much people have downloaded the movies!

When will the results be showcased (not that I did it for that, but its always exiting  )?

Thanks again Roberto, for making this all possible!

Hi guys, Roberto here.

I just wanted to say thanks to all that made the Dracula’s Castle FXWARS a success.
All the entries were great but it is obvious that 3 entries went ahead of the pack.

So lets show the winners!

But first …
Thanks to Samuel Kvaalen for setting up the voting program, and Akin for his help with the compilation…

Comment: (Story is about the UFO bymistake entered to the earth and crashed near the wheatfield.it’s hard for alien to live on earth’s environment.it alive for few hours and after that its whole body burned out due to atmosphere.and also Crop circle is found in the middle of wheatfield…)

I use 3ds max8 for modelling, particlefx and some compositing, combustion and photoshop for postproduction.Everything is done without any plugin.I didn’t own any digital camera yet.so i had limitation to do my piece on
still images.and i also tried to move camera on still images to make it live and also faked DOF in 3ds max for alien burn/burst shot.No matter who wins , i learned a lot during the making this.anyway below is the mirror link to final animation if above didn’t work.

Congratulations guys!

I really wish now that I hadn’t spent so much time on my entry. Only one or two shots next time.

#26

Nope you should not see it that way.
You made a mini movie. That is hard core cool.

How many people you know have made their own mini films?

Roberto’s right, Joseph…

I’ve done challenges & projects both ways – just shots vs. doing the full-blown story, music, titles… wrapping it up in a nice little bow.

I personally get a bigger kick out of completing a narrative (or taking a portion of one) than I do in just delivering a perfect shot or two out of context. That’s just who I am

And yes, it makes things far more difficult, but far more rewarding creatively!

#28

Wow…I m surprized…:scream:

http://www.allanmckay.com/

hey guys i got an idea for the next fxwar something like liquid monsters, made out of mud and dripping parts while he moves. it’s just an idea

#37

Congrats dude !!

:applause: :applause: :applause:

Its great to see ya “plugged”

#38

Thanks … yeah i m totally inspired by guys like petedraper,allan mckay,charley…

and that shot is inspired from “blade : trinity” film!!

#39

hello the_jigu would you mind telling us about the process for the particle dispertion
as in how did u desintegrate the skin, was it a animated noise material synch with the particles?

#40

Nothing special…i used animated gradient ramp map(with higher fractal noise) on low poly model of alien to born the particles on his skin…

Link to animated gradient map to born particles :: http://www.filelodge.com/files/hdd6/134372/gradient_ramp.mov

and yeah for alien material…it’s done with “Blend” material. In blend material, in one slot i had alien skin material and as in other slot i had that “black burned wood” like material…and i used that animated “gradient ramp” map(modified from above one) as mask to fade from “skin” material to " black" material…

Excuse my bad english…
