how do you get .vob files in shake 4?
any way at all?
You need to change the vob into either a quicktime or an image sequence. There are many programs out on the web that can do this. Check out www.doom9.net or www.videohelp.com
I don’t know any compositors that import vob’s. Thats the file format of and encoded mpeg2 file prepared for dvd.
If you have the MPEG2 Playback Component for Quicktime it should be able to be imported like any other Quicktime file in Shake.
The MPEG2 Playback Component used to be a paid download from Apple, but now I think it might be included with DVD Studio Pro or Final Cut Pro?
The other thing to consider with your vob is that it’s a muxed stream, so you need to demux it into the elementary video and audio streams. BBDemux is a popular choice for demuxing vobs but there are numerous solutions.
Hi, I did just that. I bought the mpeg2 thing from apple.
When I import the .vob file I riped useing OSEX. I file in the file but when you click the node it turns red.
on another note the apple store charged me tax.
You may want to demux the vob into its elementary streams than export the footage as an image sequence.
Personally I don’t like to work with Quicktime movies that use codecs with interframe compression. It’s just so much easier to use an image sequence… ![]()
I would normaly agree with you how ever, a movie has 165,000-200,000 frames in it and my computer locks up with that many files in one folder. It is just easy to do it as uncompressed .avi
Thanks.
Who works in shake on a 160,000 frame shot? Not that it matters because shake shouldn’t have an issue with a 160k frame shot. Just never open the actual folder in your OS. Only deal with it in the commandline or inside shake.
Yes I have tryed that too. I bought this program for personal use. Its on a 1.8 single processor G5. Power mac with a raid. Then I would do as you say. Its also about time. and it often locks up/crash trying to import it into quick time. and export it out. and when I de mux it in mpeg stream clip as a .avi file and a .aiff file I imported them into shake. but the audio is off buy like 5-6 sec. and it should not be. It should be right on. I do not like all this converting crap going on. I just want a drag and drop. but even so. I still don’t understand why the audio is off.
What exactly are you trying to do with this footage inside of Shake? If you’re trying to rip a DVD you don’t legally own this is not the right place to be asking about it…
The audio/video is out-of-sync most likely do to the demuxing and transcoding of the video (calculations based on 29.97 vs. 29.976 usually do this).
So now I don’t own the DVD’s I am doing this too? why does everyone always cry warez?
I don’t have final cut pro. I was trying to get a all in one with shake. so if it is a de mux problem? how do I fix it?
Edit.
I rip my DVD’s for backup since some of my older one’s are starting to go bad. I want to use osex. to rip the .vob then import in into shake and then export it out via diva codec as a movie.
Right tool for the right job. If you need to do a bunch of dvd ripping and editing of the files. Look at some of the mpeg/vob tools here:
www.doom9.net
www.videohelp.com
There are tons of tuts and links to free(as in beer) software apps that do all this kind of stuff. Shake or FCP is not the right tool for this kind of job.
I know I know.
I wanted to use shake for its filters and what not…It should be able to do this. but I will look at your links.
Thanks beaker.
ok I know those links doom9 is all windows and videoehelp through me in a loop because I know mac software is there but I can’t find it right now. I want to do this in shake. because thats what I have. It should be a simple import/export nothing more and thats whats pissing me off. I guess since I used diva to creat the .mov file and mpeg stream clip to get the audio thats were the problem is but since the video comes out like crap I am forced to use two different programs.
Didn’t mean to jump to conclusions about being a pirate, but keep in mind that when these questions come up it often has to do with piracy ![]()
To take a step back for a bit… what is it that you want to do with this workflow?
If all you’re interested in is making a single compressed movie from a DVD than it might be in your best interest to look at tools like Handbrake. This would allow you to do everything in a one-step workflow and apply filters to clean up the video track.
Shake is a stellar compositing and effects tool, but it might be like putting a fire out with gasoline in this situation.
Space-shifting (aka ripping a DVD) is mainly a transcode with filters to reduce artifacting and interlacing. Shake would definitely let you do this, but as pointed out above there are better tools with smaller workflows for this.
Good luck!
The dvd’s are anime dvd’s and I am a AMV maker. anime music videos. Thats what S 4.0 is for. how ever I do not need sound so converting is easy I use shake as a time line and its very hard. any ways I don’t like buying alot of misc programs so I try to do everything in one program. I am right now going to check out your link. I also fixed the problem with mpeg stream clip I fixed the video by doing a 16:9 that 853x720 bah bah bah it works. I am hopeing now that since the video and audio are being converted to avi via apple photo 98% that everything will come out the way it should.
True, I was looking at Fast copy DVD but that just copys it do another DVD. I am trying to back up everything to disk because I have like 70 DVD movies. and that just anime. I am new to shake and all. as beaker said right tool for the right job but if all you have is S 4.0 ya have to work with it. As time goes by and I become better I will beable to work faster and use shake as a time line for editing although I am very sure it is not recommend. spelling
Thank you and I still don’t understand why shake won’t see/read vob’s as I have the mpeg2 plug in installed…odd
I just want to thank beaker and everyone else for your help. I did it
for some odd reason and with the help from tech support over at http://www.3ivx.com/
In diva I was setting the video too 29.97 and he told me to leave it let to best because turning it to 29.97 does not do what I thought it does.
I used mpeg stream clip for the .aiff file and diva set to “best” and when I imported it to shake it worked kind off. the audio is off still but when I exported it to 3ivx 4.5 codec 24 FPS everything works great. Thanks
so with the audio lag in shake its telling me that my system is not fast enough for it to sync
