Hey!

I just downloaded your videotut. There are a few issues i would like to address. First off, you should have a look at renderable splines. The way you make your chain is really one of the hardest ways of making one that i have seen. Second is that you copy each chain joint. This means that there will be hell of alot more geometry data in memory than needed. The correct would be to instance each joint so it max only carries the dataset for one joint. I also wonder why you didnt keep the chain in the renderer when rendering out the text for postcomping so you wouldn’t have to mask it out in PS. However this is probably more a personal preference and really only a minor issue.

I think its really great thought that you take the time to make a video tutorial as they are very helpfull and its always something new to learn!

Thanks for making this, I’m going to download it right now!

It’s looking pretty cool, gonna download it now!

Very nice tutorials there
Zachrias
Instance of the links and a spline to line them up would be okay.
Yet I worry about the link shapes intersecting.

I see that you don’t like that i set out the manually  But hey! i have a good comp so why not ^^

Anyway! this is just a litte referense HOW you can do it! I prefer that you use the method you are used to!

I’ve been looking at the video tutorials again.

Will be trying my hand at using Mental Ray for rendering and CS2 to create a similiar version.

Nice environmental reflection
The inscription on the inside of your ring is flipped on its vertical axis.
I suggest you edit the uvw’s for the polygons that are on the inside of the ring.

Well it has been some time since I posted a update.
A improved version has been posted by editing my earlier post.
Here is the image

In addition I've discovered a tutorial by Neil Blevins
This tutorial uses a path defrom for making a chain and it works quite nicely.
      Here is the [Tutorial Link](http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/tentacles_and_chains/tentacles_and_chains.htm)
       Enjoy !
