Viability of XSI 1?

#1

To make a very long story short, back when XSI first came out I got a full copy with manuals and dongle all the stuff. Promptly after that I got a line on a modeling job at a game company and they were using Maya. So the long and short of it is the job went nowhere and I moved on to other things leaving 3D behind. I still have the copy of XSI 1, and was thinking of getting back into 3D. I’m sure XSI is on version bazillion now, and really am not into paying for the full copy of the latest release versus paying my mortgage. What are the opinions of starting out at square zero with this app, and then if something works out with it I can step up to the next level? I’m more or less looking at commission based work down the road. Opinions please?
Thanks,
Dave

Version 1 came with SI|3D for very good reasons. It was released to the public because the wait for it could go on for no longer, but it’s seriously limited in functionality and options for today’s standards.
I’d get in touch with sales and see how much it would be to upgrade it to v7, v1 was painful to work with and is now almost a decade old.

I bought XSI 6.0 one year ago for half the price, because I once bought Softimage3D and still had my dongle.
So, if you can provide a donglenumber, you should “upgrade” to V7 for half the price either.
