Very slow on “3D view”

#1

I tried MudBox2009 but it was very slow on “3D view"

My PC info:

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2
CPU: P4 2.8GHz
RAM: 2Gb
HDD: 15Gb free
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce FX5800

I updated my display card driver but it still very “lag” when I use 3D view…
anyone got the solution? THANKS

Im in the same boat but I wont say that its entirely too slow for me in 3d mode.

From what I can tell Mudbox 2009 needs more Ram than that.

I have Dual core Xeon 2.66 GHz
2.75 Gb ram, 4 Gb in all.
Nvidia Quadro 3500, 256 mb

Im going to upgrade to Vista 64 bit…
From XP 32 bit.

I am not able to access my machines full capacity using Windows XP 32
from what I know…which is very limited in terms of “Hardware” needs…(Im learning.)

I want to try to jump-start a topic that focuses on how to best run MB2009…

Because this is important in being able to fully utilize the power of MB2009…and reach up to as much as 250 million polygons.
Being able to paint and take full advantage of this amazing program including its material and lighting abilities when working with models that reach up to 50 million is not possible on most machines.

I am looking into getting a better Graphics card in particularly the Nvidia 3700.

One last point I’d like to make is that it seems that many different problems occur when using only but a few Graphics cards and that some features will not work to their fullest unless we have essentially the most powerful system…

Again , I think this is a common issue for many upgrading to MB2009 and I think we should have an area (besides “The area”) here to address this issue.

Meanwhile I’ll search there too!

The ammount of ram in your graphics card is the problem… for mudbox you need a recent card (nvidia 8 series or above) and at least 512mb of onboard graphics ram.

The recommended specs for MB09 are listed on the Autodesk website.

Yes they are…
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=12068866

And this helps but it doesnt explain enough to satisfy
me. I think its important for an open discussion about
so we can all learn what is working and whats not…
Surprisingly some peoples setups work better than
others that should be superior…

I am confident that the few changes I will make
are going to be sufficient and I can only accredit that
to learning from a wide array of Mudbox users.

i was using MB09 with an oldish(256m) Ati card and experiencing the lag and strange artifacts.
So i just bought and installed an 8800gt card with 1 gig gpu.

i’m running MB09 64 with xp64 sp2 and 2g ram on a dual 3ghz intel.

i rubbed my hands with glee as i booted up…only to experience lags/artifacts at 2 milion polys!!

what the f…!!:shrug:I’ve literally had the new card in 10 mins.

What’s the next step? Back to MB1.surely not.
Any thoughts Wayne?

Quote from Autodesk:

Important Notes
(1) There are many cards based on GeForce GPU chipsets. NVIDIA and Autodesk do not recommend these cards for use with Mudbox as you may experience various refresh, display and stability problems, and inadequate performance. We suggest you choose NVIDIA workstation cards instead, such as the Quadro families

oops.look like i wasted my money. It’s seems a bit extreme that a we should have to fork out for a high-end workstation card to get decent performance from MB09.

a quadro with at least 512meg gpu is preety expensive last time a looked into it.
