Vanilla, a fork from Blender

#1

Hi,

Blackdot will looks like to Softimage XSI for free software and open source, i know it is a big task (i am solo and not so very popular dev for time being lol) to do it all tool for everyone

My dev is in github but it is heavily changing (not yet commited) so it is very unstable and very buggy, it does not work at all and it takes a lot time to finish. I try to mimic to UI from Softimage XSI so it is not 100 % clone but it looks like so close with new and improve features. Only 3D modeling is focused not animation or FX sim it will make later.

Blackdot is based from Moonlight Creator by Stephane Rehel so i will take this open source and make it new to 3D modeling.

I have other project too but i switch between this dev when i have more time to make it. I am learning to programming still but need to more to practise.

Wait and see to more news here.

Welcome to ideas, features or critics.

Thanks

At later.

Good luck with that.

You could also just contribute improvements to Blender, which already has a vibrant user base and lots of active development.

For example you could help improve the Non Linear Animation editor (Animation Mixer)

Totally agree with billreynish on his response. I just watched Pablo Vasquez give his weekly update on the current 2.80 code push (https://blender.community/c/today/lVcbbc/) and ‘finalization,’ while ‘forks’ (Sculpt, LANPR, VSE, Everything Nodes) are being developed off the Master for 2.81 and beyond. Phenomenological development, with community support and input. They need and want code developers and have 5-6 paid developers on-board, with Blender Development Funds, plus a host of other around the globe who also contribute. They just got 8 people funded thru Google Summer of Code, again this year. I understand the ‘wonder’ that was XSI, so bring that along with you and contribute to the community, instead of a “wish I, could I, might have been.”
There is also a strong Blender Addon Market, which I support and buy from.

Thank all, yes for blender dev is good too, i have a fork for blender as well and want more to be independent. Vanilla is a fork from Blender 2.79b, i work in free time and i will look in source code on how to change and improve all the tools.
The reason of Blackdot is i like softimage XSI and would like to make it for everyone because it is best 3D software .

XSI was indeed great, but it’s no small feat to implement all of ICE, the Animation Mixer, and all the other features that made XSI great.

Blender could need help in the areas where XSI was strong: Non-linear animation and node-based workflows.

Improve to Non linear animation and add node-based workflows are in my todo.

Ok i hear a lot people love Blender more than Softimage XSI cause it is dead, would you like see Gui in Vanilla as Softimage XSI or no?? Just more features as Softimage or houdini to be more powerful tools ?

Should be in 2.79B for those want this UI or more modern in 2.8x ? It needs to improve for UI ?

It seems nobody want Blackdot, is it necessary to go for my dev ??? :frowning:

I have changed the title so it is good for you, right ?

I run Blender 2.80Beta and 2.79 until 2.80 settles completely, . . . soon. It has so much more potential than the 2.79 era, which is my suggestion, and as stated, many of the ‘branches’ are waiting in the wings, many are already available on Graphicall.org, and will quickly get implemented in the 2.81 development. I would love to see ICE and Non-linear animation tools, and I know that “everything nodes” is already being developed. I also use Lightwave 2019 and modo, but Blender is moving faster, and is open to developers everylwhere. Watch Pablo Vazquez on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFEs5wZuFxI&list=PLa1F2ddGya_87HJ72v_IgKUTNLIXSMfvB&index=2&t=2s as he sums up the almost completed work.
I am very enthusiastic about XSI related ideas, and would hate to have you go down the long road, without enough help, too make your ideas come to life.

When you want to stay more independent then there is also the Blender Fork Bforartists. We focus at UI improvements. But other changes are welcome as well.
