Value Studies - Please Help

This is the first time I am submitting here.

    I am working on value studies and I am wondering if I am going in the correct direction.
    
    I am trying to keep to 5 value:  Black, White, Mid tone, and two more between mid tone.
    
    Not sure if I am blending the values together correctly.  I am using different brush opacities and I wonder if I am doing this correctly or not.

Now that I figured out how to do the image here it it.

Please help me with this if I am going in the correct direction.

These simple value studies are a great way to train your ability to compose effective tonal composition. You’re definitely on the right track. So many artists paint themselves into the corner because they don’t do enough prep work and just straight into doing a detailed painting. If everyone did these value studies before starting a painting, they’d save themselves from so many problems.
