V-Ray Materials from .vrscene

#1

Does anyone reliably import V-Ray materials from a .vrscene file? I would love for this to work to transfer materials from Max…

So far, it gives Maya 2014 a fatal error after selecting my .vrscene file and hitting open. Maya 2013 doesn’t crash, and sometimes actually creates a V-Ray material, but without any of the connections/inputs/colors/etc.

Where should I even begin to troubleshoot this?

Alternately, if there is another way to transfer 3ds Max V-Ray materials to Maya, let me know!

Do you need to be able to modify the materials in Maya as Maya shaders? If not, V-Ray 3 has some more tools for that inside the VRayVrmatMtl material; it allows you to either render a .vrmat file exported from 3ds Max (and these can be edited), or to select a material from a given .vrscene file (which will render, but can’t be edited).

Best regards,
Vlado

Sure, editability within Maya would be preferred, but either of those options would be worth trying. Are any of those features in V-Ray 2.4?
