Uvw unwrap problem

#1

Hi guys,
I was making a mace in 3ds max and this is the front metallic part of it. I want to make the edge of the cylinder look worn out, but the problem is that both the surface dont share common edge as you can see from the uv unwrap, so that i can paint the scratch over. Is there any way to do that? pls help!

use a 3d painter like mudbox or 3dcoat for…

Or use a different set of UV for the edge’s polys.

Thanks Christoph and Joerg, and sorry for the late response!

Christoph that was a great advice and exactly that same thing came to my mind too but because i am a beginner it would be great if you can tell me any way to sort out this problem without taking it to any other program.

hey Joerg sorry to bother you.Can you please tell me how to do that ?

(I’m assuming you’re using 3dsMax)
Select the polys for the edge, add another UVW Mapping and change the Mapping Channel to something different than 1.
Add another Unwrap, unwrap those edges so they have at least some sort of common edge and use that unwrap to create a mask which you use in a blend material using the newly assigned map channel.

And read this

hey Joerg thanks for the help, i’ll try it as soon as i’ll have access to my computer and also thanks for the links they are going to help me a lot.

Or if you don’t want to leave Max, use Viewport Canvas’s 3D projection-painting abilities to paint a scratch-mask.
